Hi everyone!

Attraction park Madurodam found out about my ship building hobby and asked to use my 3D models for their latest attraction New Amsterdam ... I was happy to sell them to them.

Now the attraction is finished. The ships seem to play a pretty major part in the attraction . People can even shoot a cannon at them!

Hi everyone,

Its been quite a while since my last post here... After the birth of my daughter I've been pretty occupied.
Still I noticed that my blog still attracted attention from several people interested in 17th century ships. So three months ago I decided to start again on a small project...

I'd like to show my latest render of a Brittish light frigate, the HMS Martin, built in 1652.
This ship had quite an active carreer, sailing to the West Indies, Mediterranean and was part of the squadron capturing New York from the Dutch in 1664. Although she was very lightly armoured, she participated in several battles during the First and Second Anglo-Dutch wars.

For this composition, I figured the model wouldn't need much more than some dramatic back lighting...

The raid

1667. After several fierce sea battles in the second Anglo-Dutch war, Brittish war funds were exhausted. They were forced to keep a big part of their ships laid up at the ports.

With the English fleet removed from the North Sea, the Dutch planned a daring raid on the English base at Chatham. Sailing up the Thames and the Medway, they stormed the fortress at Sheerness, destroyed fifteen ships, and captured the English flagship, Royal Charles, which was taken back to Holland as a trophy. The Medway raid was the worst defeat ever inflicted on the Royal Navy.

It's been a while since the last post. I have been working on another model. It it the predecessor of The Zeven Provincien, the flagship 'Eendracht', that sailed from 1655 tot 1665,. The saw fierce action at the Battle of the Sound and at Lowesoft where she blew up completely. I hope to put her in a scene with some action soon.

Duel of the Titans

Hi everyone,

Quite some work into this one...

It is a scene from the st James Day battle of the the Second Anglo-Dutch war and a depiction of the olympic struggle between the flagships of both fleets; the Royal Charles and the Zeven Provincien.

Since the Zeven Provincien is one of the best documented 17th century ships, it was a good starting point for me as a modelling subjest. I made a version of it two years ago, but is wasn't good enough. last months I remodelled the entire ship. I hope it looks a little better now.

Michiel de Ruyter's flagship ''Zeven Provincien'' is without question the most famous Dutch warship in history.
I already made a version of the ship when I started modeling ships two years ago, but now know a lot more about ships and modeling them, so I practically can start over again.
I started to build the hardest part first; the richly decorated stern of the ship. There are quite a few differences between both contemporary and modern sources about how the stern decoration looked, but I tried to make it as accurate as possible.
